Opening Principles
— Three Goals
Fight for the center
(small & big center) – like opening a shop on the main street
Develop all pieces
toward the center using "one piece, one move" (avoid multiple pawn moves)
Keep the king safe
– treat it like your child before going into war
2
WOW Principle
What Opponent Wants
– ask this after every opponent move
Saves you from 90% of blunders
Think about your opponent's ideas, plans, and potential threats
3
CCT(A) System
Check
– look for checking opportunities
Capture
– consider capturing pieces
Threat
– identify dangerous intentions
Active moves
– moves that improve your position and go forward
Key:
Works for both you AND your opponent on EVERY move of a variation
4
Middle Game Strategy
Shift perspective from opening to middle game thinking
Opponent attacks on the side → answer in the center
(golden principle)
Make your opponent react to your moves rather than executing their own plans
5
Calculation Method
Calculate
both/ALL options 3 moves ahead
or until no active opportunities remain
Compare resulting positions to decide which move is better
Apply CCT on every move of the variation, not just the first
6
Handling Mistakes
The system isn't about making perfect moves – it's about
making chess easier
and creating problems for the opponent
Even if you lose, you learn more by playing actively
7
Core Behavioral Rules
Never make a move without thinking what your opponent can do in response (40% of time on opponent)
Don't be intimidated – if something isn't dangerous to your knowledge, proceed with your plan
Be
concrete
, not vague ("it might be dangerous" = bad approach)
Focus on one plan rather than random moves
Active play creates problems for opponent and makes it harder for them
8
Endgame Conversion
Two strategies: attack to checkmate OR exchange everything until it doesn't move
Focus on:
King activity, Piece activity, and Passers
(pawns that can promote)
Don't necessarily win ALL pawns – focus on creating a passer
9
Golden Principle
Opponent attacks on the side → answer in the center
If you have two bishops → open up the position
Bishop is stronger than knight in most cases – don't exchange bishop for knight willingly
10
Major Mistakes to Avoid
Combining two different ideas in the same game (chasing two things → achieving none)
Thinking the same way throughout the whole game – you must
shift perspectives
between opening, middle, and endgame
Ignoring opponent's multiple threats – think beyond the most obvious one
Making passive moves when active alternatives exist
